Hany Rambod Breaks Down and Rates Urs Kalecinski’s Physique & Posing
Renowned for sculpting champions, 25x Olympia-winning coach Hany Rambod is known for his meticulous eye and unparalleled expertise in bodybuilding. His insights are often regarded as gold in the industry, making his latest critique of Classic Physique standout Urs Kalecinski highly anticipated. On March 14th, 2025, Rambod shared an in-depth analysis via YouTube, where he examined Kalecinski’s on-stage presentation, assessing his strengths and identifying key areas for improvement.
Urs Kalecinski’s Rise in Classic Physique
Over the past few years, Urs Kalecinski has cemented himself as one of the top contenders in the Classic Physique division, consistently battling for supremacy. Despite delivering remarkable performances, he has secured third place in the last three Mr. Olympia contests. This consistency demonstrates his elite-level conditioning and dedication but also highlights his relentless drive to break into the top echelon. A detailed critique from a coach of Rambod’s caliber could provide the exact refinements necessary for Urs to take his physique to the next level.
Hany Rambod’s Physique Breakdown of Urs Kalecinski
For his analysis, Hany Rambod scrutinized Kalecinski’s 2024 Mr. Olympia performance, which he considers to be the pinnacle of Urs’ career thus far. Rambod’s evaluation delved into both the standout attributes and the areas where further development is required.
The Power of the X-Frame
One of the standout elements of Kalecinski’s physique is his well-balanced X-frame. Rambod was particularly impressed by his ability to create the illusion of width despite not having the naturally broad clavicles of some competitors. Urs’ well-separated and deeply striated quadriceps further enhance his aesthetic appeal, showcasing elite-level conditioning and muscle detail.
“The X-frame that he carries here and here is looking really, really good. You can really see the pec development; The shoulder development looks right on point…
His quads, especially the sartorius muscles, are looking awesome…
He’s not naturally as wide as Wesley or some of these other guys, but he really is trying to show what he has to be able to accentuate the x-frame”
Physique Refinements – Areas for Growth
Triceps & Forearm Development
While Urs’ biceps have good shape and his conditioning is spot-on, Rambod emphasized that his arms need additional mass to keep up with his rivals. Specifically, more thickness in the triceps would enhance the overall arm density and create a more complete look. Additionally, Rambod pointed out that Urs could benefit from increased forearm development, as it would contribute to better symmetry and a more dominant upper-body presentation.
“What I’d like to see is that tricep fullness… I would like him to be able to fill in to try to create even more width. That helps that illusion of width on that front lat spread…
His pecs look really good; he could use a little more upper pec. But again, I’m nitpicking here… It is going to show an even more dramatic x-frame as he builds his lats…
If he could work a little bit more on overall arm thickness, it would make a huge, huge difference.”
Back Width & Training Adjustments
Assessing Kalecinski’s ‘Back Double Biceps’ pose, Rambod noted that while his lower body remains top-tier, his back lacks the width necessary to truly contend for the number one spot. To address this, Rambod prescribed a regimen focusing on rows, specifically advocating for bent-over rows with a reverse grip to engage the lower lats more effectively. Additionally, he recommended incorporating multiple grip variations on lat pulldowns to activate different angles of the back musculature, leading to greater width and overall back development.
“The width here (lats) is one of the most important things that Urs has to work on going into the 2025 season…
He’s not naturally super wide in the first place, but if he can keep building that back up, that’s going to help tremendously with that optical illusion of width…
As he gets wider, he wants to be able to really hit those lower trap rhomboid areas, so that can be able to really pop… Right now, he is losing on that pose because of the lack of density and width necessary to show the separation.
Again, he is doing a great job. I am being super, super picky.”
The Critical Role of Posing
Breaking down Kalecinski’s ‘Side Chest’ pose, Rambod highlighted some minor technical adjustments that could enhance his stage presence. While his musculature in this pose is well-developed, Rambod advised Urs to focus on twisting his torso slightly more and expanding his chest while simultaneously controlling his breathing. By exhaling more strategically, Urs can further tighten his midsection, creating a more exaggerated V-taper, which will make him appear wider and fuller to the judges.
“The judges will not judge you on what you look like. They judge you on what you present.
If you look amazing but you’re not flexing your legs but they are ripped, they’re not going to judge you on the fact that you have ripped legs… It is really really important that you present well…
If he was twisting and rotating his body in that direction, his upper body, keeping his legs exactly the way that they are, what he’s going to be able to do is show much, much more of that width.”
The Final Verdict: 8.5/10
Hany Rambod gave Kalecinski an overall rating of 8.5, recognizing his outstanding potential but also emphasizing that further refinements could push him into the top two. Given that Urs is only 26 years old, he still has time to maximize his development and contend for the sport’s most coveted title.
As part of his strategic planning, Urs opted to sit out the 2025 Arnold Classic to dedicate his efforts entirely to his 2025 Mr. Olympia prep. With six-time Classic Physique champion Chris Bumstead announcing his retirement, the division is now wide open. If Kalecinski can successfully implement Rambod’s feedback, he may very well be poised to step into the vacant throne and claim bodybuilding’s most prestigious honor.
