Wesley Vissers Plans Hiatus Following 2025 Detroit Pro, Confirms ‘Olympia This Year Won’t Happen’

Classic Physique standout Wesley Vissers is strategically planning the next phase of his bodybuilding journey following a disappointing finish at the 2025 Arnold Classic. On March 9, 2025, Vissers revealed his intention to compete at the Detroit Pro before stepping away from the competitive stage, opting to sit out the 2025 Mr. Olympia to prioritize offseason improvements.

Vissers entered Columbus, Ohio, as the reigning Arnold Classic champion, but this year’s event presented a new challenge in the form of 2024 Olympia runner-up Mike Sommerfeld. Sommerfeld displayed refined symmetry, enhanced conditioning, and superior muscular balance, which ultimately outshined Vissers’ package. Judges critiqued Vissers for lacking the necessary leg mass to be a serious title contender, resulting in a fifth-place finish.

Understanding the need for refinement, Vissers is determined to deliver a better showing at the Detroit Pro before stepping away to focus on size, symmetry, and overall muscularity. He views this final contest as a confidence booster heading into an extended growth phase.

In a recent YouTube update, Vissers and his coach reached a consensus that taking a competitive hiatus is the smartest decision moving forward.

“So, we said that we were going to take a much longer break this time to really work on what we need to work on. The balance of the body,” Vissers shared.

“We are taking a much more longer break,” his coach reiterated.

Acknowledging that his 2024 Olympia and Arnold Classic performances fell short of expectations, Vissers believes a structured break will allow him to make the necessary gains to return stronger.

“The last Arnold, I won the Arnold. The Olympia went not as we wanted. This Arnold did not go as we wanted. So that, of course, is a clear sign that we need to change something. At the same time, me and Marley have talked about this. I’ve now had two nights where I thought a lot about – I was very excited about taking the break, at first.

It was like, oh, finally, letting everything go. But in the back of my mind, I’m like, am I ending now this season on this low note? We, in four weeks, were supposed to do Detroit. That was the plan,”

Even if he earns an automatic qualification for the 2025 Mr. Olympia, he remains steadfast in his plan to conclude his season after the Detroit Pro, prioritizing physique enhancements over immediate stage appearances.

“I think I would regret not first trying to see if we can resurrect that shape for Detroit before saying we’re not going to do it for sure,” he shared. “The Olympia this year won’t happen.”

“You qualify in Detroit, and then you won’t go?” asks Stefan Kienzl.

“Yes,” remarked Vissers.

The 2025 Detroit Pro is slated for March 29 in Detroit, MI, where Vissers aims to leave a lasting impression before shifting his focus toward mass accumulation and refinement for future competition.
